The GT6 was a logical step for Triumph. The Spitfire, upon which it was based, allowed inexpensive convertible fun, but was not a long-distance cruiser with it's small four-cylinder engine. The GT6 took an existing Triumph Six, increased it to 2 liters and with a new hood (Bonnet) and hardtop fastback roofline, became a comfortable hatchback Grand Tourer.
